On Tuesday, 3rd September, 2019, the ASISC Regional Debate 2019 (Junior category) was hosted by Sri Sri Academy. Thirty-three schools had registered and they were divided into two pools, the first comprising 17 schools and the second comprising 16 schools.
Most teams registered on time but a few teams reported late, causing the declaration of the topic by Mr.RanjanMitter, Secretary, ASISC, to be made at 10:45 am, instead of the scheduled 10:00am. The motion was : India is not ready for democracy
The 1st pool was trimmed down to 12 teams, as 5 teams withdrew. The debate was held in Basement Hall 1 and was moderated by Mr. Barry Philip Antunis, Senior School Coordinator, Sri Sri Academy, with the panel of judges comprising Mr. Stephen D’Souza, Mrs.ParamjeetKaur and Mrs. Ira Bhattacharya.
The 2nd pool debated in the 7th Floor Multi-purpose Hall. It was chaired by Mr.Pranam Roy and the panel of judges included Mr.Shreyo Sadhu, Mrs.Suparna Dey and Mrs.Shukla Chattopadhyay.
After the two debates, the moderators and judges shared their feedback with the participants.
The results were then announced. PayalSapui of The Heritage School was declared Best Speaker. The Heritage School Team was declared the Champions. The 1st Runner-up Team was St. Agnes’ School, Kharagpur and the 3rd position was bagged by Modern High School for Girls. Prizes were handed to the claimants by Mrs.Gargi Banerjee, Senior School Coordinator, Sri Sri Academy.
